I’ve been on a “tear”. A while back, I posted about an approach to task management. Since then, I decided to create an app, that I called TNA (The Next Action). It was based around finding the next action (Getting Things Done), but with my slant. As I’ve said before, scheduling tasks is not something you need to do. Calendars are overrated, unless something is already scheduled that you need to react to. You never schedule something. Manage your tasks, not your time. Everyone has a finite amount each day. Tasks are the variable.

You need to focus on tasks and what you need to accomplish aligned with your goals.

Anyway, I created a basic app, then realized the things I need to accomplish could be grouped. So I added functions for each group into my app. Then, I realized I could build a timeline or journal of everything I accomplished using the app.

A couple of years ago, I had an app I called Journaleist (along the lines of Auteureist) that was a journaling app. It worked, but I never finished it and it had flaws. It was a great idea, so I took the data  stored/generated by TNA and started work on a new Journaleist. It came together easily, given the data I had. I also incorporated other sources, such as location, weather, HealthKit, etc. Then, I linked in basic stats and writing sessions from my writing app, Auteureist. Woot!

TNA was great, and did what I wanted, but it was becoming a monolith (like XCode). I’ve split TNA into separate apps. Journaleist pulls the TNA data as input to generate a “life flow” journal timeline. Think the Day One app on steroids.

So, over the past few months, I’ve created what is around ten distinct interlinked apps. I use them daily. They aren’t perfect, or done. I need to add more integrations to other apps (Notes, Bear, etc.) I need to refine the UI and fix a few things. But, I’m pleased with the progress so far.

The apps are highly opinionated {work the way I want}. I’ve stopped using calendars, reminders, etc apart from pulling data.

I also want to create an integrated app launcher and one to manage various collections or inventory.

Will I release these apps? Probably not. Unless there is a huge demand, which I doubt will exist.

It’s a fun project that I built for myself and with which I’m happy.
